A Collection of Foreign Objects (ACOFO) was founded in Japan in 2002 by a group of Canadian artists living there at the time. These artists saw important connections between the artwork they were producing and the work produced by their Japanese contemporaries. Currently based in Toronto and Hamilton, the collective has gathered regularly to collaborate on thematically based exhibitions and events that deal with our common experiences. With each endeavor, the group’s members and artwork have shifted and evolved.
As a collective our goals are to facilitate connections, communication, and collaboration between emerging artists, and to challenge each other to work beyond our own established artistic practices. By thematically exploring our playful and humorous side, we hope to appeal to broad audiences by utilizing our individual talents to create artistic experiences that are more engaging than the sum of our parts.
